From Hungary's streets to your sofa – rescuing vizslas since 2012
What began as a 3am idea – a Facebook page and a refusal to look away – has grown into one of the UK's most trusted breed-specific rescue operations, partnered with Vizslamentés Magyarország Charity in Budapest.
Chained, starved, abandoned on motorways, confiscated from cruelty cases, or simply unwanted – the dogs that reach us have seen the worst of people. We exist to show them the best. Every vizsla and pointer that enters our care in Hungary receives veterinary treatment and is placed with a foster family – never a kennel – while they heal and learn to trust again.
Hungarian shelters and animal police now come to us first when a pointer comes through their doors. Around a third of the dogs we rescue are assessed as ready for the journey to the UK, where our network of dedicated volunteers matches them with carefully vetted forever families. The rest find loving homes in Hungary. No dog is ever turned away.
Two countries, one mission. Our teams in Budapest and the UK work hand-in-hand to turn rescue stories into happy endings.
A call comes in – a stray on the streets of Budapest, a litter abandoned at a shelter, a dog seized from a cruelty case. Our Hungarian team responds, and another vizsla is safe.
Every dog is vet treated, vaccinated, microchipped, and placed with an experienced foster family. No kennels, ever. They recover at their own pace in a real home environment.
Our foster carers get to know each dog's personality, quirks, and needs. We then carefully pair them with a pre-approved UK family whose lifestyle is the right fit – not just any home, the right home.
We coordinate safe transport to the UK and your new companion arrives ready to start their second chapter. But our support doesn't end at the front door – we're here for life.
We're not heroes – just normal people with an unconditional love for vizslas. Every member of our team is a volunteer, and most are adopters themselves.
Founder & Trustee
Judit is a Hungarian who was working in the UK when she co-founded the Hungarian rescue in 2012 and later established the UK Trust. What started as a late-night idea became a cross-border operation that has saved thousands of dogs. She shares her home with four vizslas of her own – and her two daughters have been part of rescue life since the very beginning.
Trustee
Abi helped navigate one of the charity's toughest moments – getting six rescue puppies safely to the UK during COVID-19 border closures. An experienced vizsla owner and tireless advocate, she manages UK-side operations and is often the first friendly face new adopters meet.
Welfare Officer
Marie has been involved with Vizslamentés for eight years and serves as the charity's Welfare Officer. She keeps a close eye on the health and wellbeing of every newly arrived rescue, making sure each dog is settling in and thriving in their new UK home.
Volunteer
A dedicated volunteer for over ten years, Sarah helps with logistics and suitability planning for prospective adopters, ensuring every match between dog and family is set up for success.
Ready to open your home to a rescue vizsla? Here's how the journey works – and why so many of our adopters come back for a second dog.
We don't do first-come-first-served. Every adoption is a careful match between a dog's needs and a family's lifestyle. Many of our dogs have never lived in a house, walked on a lead, or been shown kindness – so getting the pairing right matters more than getting it done quickly.
Adoption day isn't the finish line – it's the start of a relationship with our team. Whether it's a behavioural question at 2am or advice on introducing your rescue to the family cat, our network of experienced volunteers and fellow adopters is always just a message away.
